Dr. Vijaya Kumar Manupati is working as an Assistant Professor of the Operations and Supply Chain division at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM), Mumbai. Before joining IIM Mumbai, he was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Warangal. He earned his doctoral degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur in 2014, specializing in the Industrial and Systems Engineering Department.
Dr. Manupati has completed several Industrial Consulting Assignments in different domain areas such as: cost management, productivity management, manpower management, productivity and profitability for major public and private sector business organisations, successfully conducted various company based training programs to the executives of large firms engaged in operational services and manufacturing within and outside India.
Dr. Manupati's research interests span various areas, including Intelligent Manufacturing Systems, Cyber-Physical Systems, Prognostics and Diagnostics of Manufacturing Systems, Sustainable and Resilient Supply Chains, and Health Care Systems. He boasts an impressive publication record, with over 100 publications, including 30+ peer-reviewed articles in prestigious journals such as Transportation Research Part-E, CIRP-Annals Manufacturing Technology, International Journal of Production Research, Computers and Industrial Engineering, and International Journal of Computer Integrated Manufacturing. Additionally, he has presented 40+ international conference papers, contributed to 20+ book chapters, and edited five books.
In addition to his research, Dr. Manupati is deeply involved in academic administration. At IIM Mumbai, he has held various roles, including Warden, member of the Digital Trust Lab, Unnat Bharat Abhiyan Committee, and the Center for Innovation, Incubation, and Entrepreneurship. He also serves as an international reviewer for over 30 peer-reviewed journals and is an Editorial Review Board member for several esteemed publications, including the International Journal for Quality Research and Proceedings of Engineering Sciences. He is a special issue editor for the International Journal of Advanced Operations Management.
Dr. Manupati has received numerous accolades for his contributions, including research grants from the Department of Science and Technology (DST) and the prestigious Young Engineers Award from the Institute of Engineers India. He is an active member of professional organizations, including the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineering (IISE), the Institute of Engineers (IEI) India, and the International Association of Engineers (US). He regularly contributes as a technical and scientific committee member for international conferences.
As a mentor and guide, Dr. Manupati has successfully supervised two Ph.D. dissertations in the areas of Distributed Manufacturing Systems and Healthcare Modeling in Manufacturing Systems. He has also guided more than 100 postgraduate students (MBA and M.Tech) through their Summer Internship and Capstone Projects. His multifaceted contributions to academia, research, and industry underscore his dedication to advancing the field of operations and supply chain management
